Colorimetric characterization of a desktop drum scanner using a spectral model
نویسندگان
چکیده
A scanner characterization method based on an analytic spectral model was derived. Themethod firstmodeled the spectral formation of eachmedium using either Beer-Bouguer Law or Kubelka-Munk theory. Scanner digital counts were then empirically related to dye concentrations. From these estimated dye concentrations, either spectral transmittance or spectral reflectance factor could be predicted. These estimated spectral data were used to calculate tristimulus values and then color differences for the target object. A Howtek D4000 desktop drum scanner was colorimetrically characterized accordingly. The average characterization errors were all less than CIELAB color difference of 1.0 for Kodak IT8.7/1, Kodak Q-60C, Fuji IT8.7/1, and Fuji IT8.7/2 targets via this method.

Color scanner colorimetric design requirements
Device independent color requires that all color imaging devices “speak” in CIE colorimetric terms. A color image scanner is one component of the desktop color imaging chain that needs to be colorimetric if color is to be device independent. Most commercial color scanners are not colorimetric. Instead, they are built as color densitometers, emulating commercial graphic arts scanners. There are ...
متن کاملSpectral Estimation of Printed Colors Using a Scanner, Conventional Color Filters and applying backpropagation Neural Network
Reconstruction the spectral data of color samples using conventional color devices such as a digital camera or scanner is always of interest. Nowadays, multispectral imaging has introduced a feasible method to estimate the spectral reflectance of the images utilizing more than three-channel imaging. The goal of this study is to spectrally characterize a color scanner using a set of conventional...

A desktop scanner was colorimetrically characterized to average CIELAB error of less than unity for Kodak Ektachrome transparencies and Ektacolor paper, and Fuji Photo Film Fujichrome transparencies and Fujicolor paper. Independent verification on spectrally similar materials yielded average ∆E*ab error of less than 2.1. The technique first modeled the image formation of each medium using eithe...

To achieve high image quality throughout a digital imaging system, the first requirement is to ensure the quality of the device that captures real-world physical images to digital images, for example a desktop scanner. Several factors have influence on this quality: optical resolution, bit depth, spectral sensitivities, and acquisition noise, to mention a few. In this study we focus on the colo...
